We are lucky enough to have received lots of guests who like to return to the Barn over and over again.  But don't just take our word for it, take a look at our reviews....

We thoroughly enjoyed our second stay in Colne Brook Barn which has every amenity you would ever need, furnished with nice touches and even a lovely welcome pack to start off the holiday. The new drive has made the access to the property much easier and with the coded gate it felt very secure. The grounds are fabulous and we spent many hours sitting outside in the sunshine watching the birds and wildlife by the brook. Shirley and Mike were very helpful and friendly and their main concern was that you had everything you need to ensure your holiday was relaxed and enjoyable. We shall definitely return in the near future.

This is our third visit and already booked again for next year! Lovely cottage with everything that you could possibly need/want and more. Clean, fresh, welcoming (including a little welcome pack!) and some lovely touches that make you feel at home.

Shirley and Mike could not be more welcoming either, nothing is too much trouble and had some lovely afternoon chats whilst exercising our JRT with Kizzy and Bailey in the field whilst Jasper the cat looks on from a distance sometimes!

Highly recommend to anyone looking to either sightsee, do lots of walking as close to so many places or just relax and sit and watch the wildlife/world go by.

I arrived slightly early at the Barn as Shirley and Mike very kindly texted me that the Barn was ready early as they knew I was already in the area and that was a lovely start to an excellent week. Shirley and Mike called in not long after I got there to say a friendly "Hi "and let me know how to contact them should I need to. What lovely people they are, most welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The cottage itself was immaculate throughout and very well set up with everything you could need, just bring your toothbrush! I enjoyed an extremely pleasant, calm amd peaceful week at the Barn, shared with the local wildlife which was plentiful from Badgers, rabbits, foxes, Buzzards and birds of all varieties. I can heartily recommend a stay at Colne Brook Barn and if at all possible I will be back again myself. Thanks for a great stay to Shirley and Mike.

Colne Brook Barn is even better than it looks on the website.  Shirley and Mike are really friendly, unobtrusive hosts who respond quickly if anything is needed.
Furnished with care, style and comfort in mind and well equipped. Bedrooms are lovely and comfortable and relaxing, slept really well. Everywhere beautifully clean.
Great that guests are welcome to share the grounds for walking, relaxing and dog exercise/play.  Warrior loved his first holiday and especially the stream.
Thoughtful extras such as the welcome buns were very much appreciated.  The basket with towels for wet dogs was useful even though we did bring some of our own as we know the area can be wet.
Great location for walking or cycling and for visiting family at nearby Chepstow.
Recommend the farm shop and cafe for fresh, reasonably priced food, snacks and breakfast bacon rolls, also The George Inn & Millingbrook Lodge at Aylburton for great food.  Hope we will see you again Shirley and Mike, many thanks.

Many thanks to Shirley and Mike for such a lovely stay at their Colne Brook Barn. It's a perfectly presented two bedroom holiday home with everything you could need, very tidy, clean and bright with lovely french doors which lead out onto the garden. We were looking for a quiet break away from work and this was ideal, spending a lot of time relaxing making use of the Sky Movies and Sport which was lovely! We were also greeted with really nice little added extras which you don't often get in holiday cottages, really made our stay that little bit more perfect, thank you.

We popped out a couple of times for walks which were nice, the forest of dean isn't far away and it's lovely for walks and to stop for a picnic.

We will definitely be returning for another relaxing break away, thank you both very much.

All the best x

The accommodation which is beautiful, well equipped and very cosy affords spectacular views. Hence I come here in autumn and again in winter to drink in the beauty of the changing seasons. I have been coming here now for three years and wouldn't entertain going anywhere else.

You don't have to leave your surroundings to capture the essence of nature. There are many places to take walks, some within walking distance others just a short drive away. In short Colne Brook Barn is in my opinion a perfect retreat "A small piece of Heaven" A place that as someone who travels alone always feels safe.

You won't get a better welcome or more friendly hosts than you do here! If you can find a free week on their calendar; give it a go you'll not be disappointed.

Thank you again for another wonderful and wonder filled week.

I have just returned from my third stay at Colne Brook Barn and have already booked two weeks for next year! The Barn and I are definitely like old friends now.
Without doubt this has to be the most amazing home away from home for me and already it holds some of my fondest memories. Shirley and Mike are wonderful hosts, first hand knowledge of this gives me authority to say so. (Cold wintery day in February and a broken down car led to Mike sorting everything out for me, including a personal taxi service to take a poorly car to the garage and later to collect a fixed one!) Colne Brook Barn offers some amazingly picturesque views. The barn itself is beautiful too, and there is nothing that could make anyone's stay more comfortable.
You would do well to consider booking for 2014 as there are very few weeks available in 2013................... I think that my last comment speaks volumes.

Thanks for affording me a perfect retreat

Karen x

Enjoyed a lovely week. Shame it was only a week. The Barn was the best we have stopped at.Shirley&Mike were lovely there if you needed them. The area has so much to offer you just set off and enjoy yourselves and come back to a home from home.
We wish Shirley&Mike all the best

Had a wonderful stay, the barn is cosy, comfortable and well equipped.  Sky TV with films and WiFi - fantastic!   Easy access to lots of places with wonderful walks - we went to Beechenhurst, Cannop Ponds, Symonds Yat, Ross on Wye and Sand Bay and lots of other forest walks.  I feel great after a week here and don't want to go home.  Shirley is a lovely hostess and made me feel welcome and at home.  I hope to come back - thank you

We really enjoyed our perfect R&R break here. Beautiful Barn with out standing surroundings for wildlife. Owners were very pleasent and always available when needed. The neighbours (Horses) Peggy and Jasper were lovely too. The location is perfect for exploring The Forest of Dean and also the England/Wales Border. The Castles surrounding the area are a must and a nice surprise in price too. Definitely look out for the Buzzards in surrounding area.

This was our first cottage break and if they are all this high in standard we will never go back to hotel holidays!

One tip is to take bird food, and some carrots!

Stayed in Colne Brook Barn between Christmas and New Year and had a lovely stay. The barn is beautifully kitted out with quality furnishings and a nice big Flat screen TV which has SKY+ and film and Sports package included. Which was great for when it was wet and cold. The owners are very friendly and could not have been more helpful. Their Dogs were so cute. The welcome tray had welsh cakes and other goodies which was a nice surprise. We enjoyed walks in the Forest of Dean and also walked up Sugar loaf which is only 3/4hr away. Take a trip to Chepstow too for a Tea shops and supermarkets. Wish my Mrs allowed me to take my Mountain Bike, The trails in the Forest are fab!

Spent a fabulous week over October half term with husband, two children and the dog.  A perfect cosy and very well equipped barn. Mark loved the full sky package, the girls loved the freedom they had, the land, swing and stream, I was happy having the Wifi and washing machine and the dog has never had such a great (usually very wet) time. Every day was spent walking miles in beautiful secluded woodlands (all on the door step).  Visited some of the many ancient castles.  Every night was spent sound asleep.  Many thanks Shirley and Mike, we loved our break and we can not wait until next year to do it all again.

Just got back home from a fab week staying at Colne Brook Barn. Thank you Shirley and Mike for making us so welcome. The barn is lovely and cosy and has all that we could need for a week. We came to the area for Mountain Biking and couldn't have wished for a better location with Mountain Bike Trail Centres at Forest of Dean (30mins), Ashton Court (45mins), Cwmcarn (45mins) and Afan (1hr15mins). There is a small lockable shed at Colne Brook Barn where the bikes can be stored when not in use as well - perfect! We recommend this Barn in such a pretty setting to anyone who is looking for self catering in the area and we hope to come back ourselves next year.

We stayed in this lovely barn in July this year and we have since had a return visit in October.  You just cannot fault this beautiful and very comfortable barn.  It is well equipped, has everything  you need and is of a high standard.  The setting is lovely and there are plenty of local walks, which are especially nice if  you have dogs. Our dogs knew exactly where they were on their return visit to the barn.  Shirley and Mike are always available should  you need their help. Of note: Over the  years we tend not to return to the same cottage twice - but Colne Brook Barn is an exception!!!  We highly recommend the barn and our dogs, Mollie & Nell give it the "paws" up to! Val & Pete Le-Petit, London.
